Seated Calf Raise
How to do the Seated Calf Raise with good form: step-by-step technique, the muscles it works (calves), coaching cues and the mistakes to avoid.

How to do it
- Sit down on the seated calf raise machine and place the balls of your feet on the lower edge of the foot platform.
- Adjust the padded thigh lever so it rests securely across the lower thighs, just above your kneecaps.
- Release the safety latch holding the weight lever.
- Lower your heels as far as possible toward the floor to achieve a deep stretch in your lower calves.
- Push upward onto your toes as high as possible, contracting the soleus muscle.
- Pause at the top for a one-second squeeze before lowering your heels back down.

- Deep stretch at the bottom
- Push straight up through the balls of the feet
- Controlled tempo
Common mistakes
- Using a short range of motion
- Bouncing the weight rapidly
- Improper adjustment of the knee pad causing discomfort
