How to do it
- Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet either flat on the ground or hovered slightly in the air for an advanced challenge.
- Lean your torso back slightly (about 45 degrees) while keeping your spine straight and core braced.
- Hold a single dumbbell or weight plate with both hands in front of your chest.
- Rotate your torso to the right, bringing the weight down toward the floor beside your right hip.
- Smoothly reverse the rotation and twist your torso all the way to the left, touching the weight beside your left hip.
- Continue alternating sides in a controlled, rhythmic manner.
Coaching cues
- Rotate from the ribcage, not just the arms
- Keep the chest proud and spine long
- Control the speed
Common mistakes
- Moving only the arms back and forth while the torso remains motionless
- Rounding the lower back into a slumped posture
- Moving too fast and using momentum
